Mount Bromo: Indonesia’s Majestic Volcano Adventure

About Mount Bromo

Mount Bromo is a popular tourist destination in East Java. It is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and is famous for its beautiful scenery, especially at sunrise. The mountain has an active crater and is about 2,329 meters above sea level. Also, there are still indigenous communities living there, like the Tengger tribe. They also consider it sacred ground. The Yadnya Kasada tradition is held every year here, at the Pura Luhur Poten temple, which is right in front of Mount Bromo’s crater.

Location & How To Get There

Mount Bromo is in four regions: Malang, Probolinggo, Pasuruan, and Lumajang. It takes about 2-2.5 hours to get here from Malang, depending on the route and traffic conditions.

Operational Hours & Admission Fee

This area is open 24 hours a day, so you can visit whenever you like. If you want to go on your own, leave downtown Malang around 3-4 a.m. to see the sunrise.

International visitors are charged around IDR 250,000 to IDR 300,000 for admission. However, if you purchase a tour package, the cost is included.

  • You can buy food or rent a horse at several places, but these will cost extra.
